However, today’s Carnival is a vastly different company than the one started from humble beginnings three decades ago in 1972. Ted Arison, a pioneer in the modern-day cruise industry, set out to realize his vision of making a cruise vacation experience - once reserved for the very rich - accessible to the average person. Carnival later developed the “Fun Ship” concept, offering a shipboard experience so vibrant that it appealed to people of all ages and backgrounds. Today’s Carnival promotes the theme of “all for fun, fun for all” with innovative new resort-style ships and high-tech entertainment.

Carnival Cruise Lines, Inc. went public in 1987 and is currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The parent company was renamed Carnival Corporation in 1994 to better distinguish it  from the Carnival Cruise Lines-owned brands which are all members of the World’s Leading Cruise Line.
