Southern Caribbean Golf
Barbados
Sandy Lane Golf Club
18 holes - Par 72 - 6,553 Yards
Barbados boasts one of the Caribbean’s most photographed golf holes: the par-3 No. 7 at Sandy Lane. North of Bridgetown on the St. James coast, Sandy Lane looks more like an elegant residence than a golfing facility. In fact, it was once the site of an old sugar plantation. Brilliant stands of colorful foliage burst upon the visitor.
The course itself is pure fun for everyone -- a real hitter’s course with wide, consistent fairways. There are plenty of challenges to be met. The bunkers were placed in a sneaky yet clever fashion. Also, the grass in the rough is deep. Variety is the spice of golf, too. At Sandy Lane, green sizes vary. Yet nowhere do you find a hold like No. 5 with a 300-foot gorge, filled with tall trees, crossing the fairway.
Martinique
The Golf Club of Martinique
18 holes
Designer Robert Trent Jones carefully selected this spot and the course unfolds its greens from the birthplace of Empress Josephine across rolling hills with scenic vistas down to the sea. Amenities include a pro shop, a bar, a restaurant, and three tennis courts. Nothing has been left to chance. The use of banks, trees, lakes, bunkers and other obstacles, skillfully distributed over 63 hectares, demands the maximum concentration for a golfer to complete the 18 hole course. Each hole is unique and its placement on the grounds is ingenious. The course is maintained with the most sophisticated methods and equipment currently available.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Cerromar Beach
North Course: 18 holes Par 72 6,841 yards
South Course: 18 holes Par 72 7,047 yards
Both the North and South course are splendid examples of Robert Trent Jones’ enterprising architecture. Enhanced by bountiful flora and numerous lakes, both are designed for fast play with wide fairways and very few greens trapped in front. On the North, a crosswind will accompany most holes, yet there are a number of par 4’s that can be reached in regulation from the white or red tees. Cerromar South’s front nine holes will put your face to the wind. On the back nine, the wind is to your back. With 13 holes involving water, there’s plenty of opportunity to hit along it, over it, around it...or in it!
St. Lucia
St. Lucia Golf & Country Club
9 holes - Par 36
The St. Lucia Golf & Country Club is set in the scenic, rolling hills of majestic Cap Estate, one of the Caribbean’s premier residential developments with panoramic views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea. This beautiful and challenging facility stretches from the powerful 510 yards Par 5 first hole to the more subdued 162 yd. Par 3 ninth hole, all of this giving the professional, amateur or novice golfer plenty of fun and recreation. Nine new holes are currently being designed and developed in conjunction with Love Enterprises, a group owned by golfing great, Davis Love II. New club house facilities, driving and practice areas are also underway.
Cap Estate Golf & Country Club
9 holes (addt’l 9 to be developed) - Par 36 - 3075 yards
The Cap Estate golf course is situated in lush, green Cap Estate comprised of 1500 acres. The course boasts scenic views of the Rodney Bay Marina and is a short walk to the most beautiful beaches in St. Lucia. The club offers a 9-hole golf course which can also be played as 18. The variety of holes, hazards and views on the golf course are a must for any golfer visiting the island. The clubhouse boasts a well-stocked bar and pro shop.
